Rationale
Region 8, encompassing the six (6) provinces of Eastern Visayas in the Philippines, faces numerous socio-economic and environmental challenges, including frequent natural disasters and persistent economic disparities. In response to these pressing issues, there is a critical need to shift toward a more sustainable and resilient development paradigm.
Smart and Sustainable Communities (SSCs) present a holistic solution by leveraging technology and fostering sustainable practices. This approach not only addresses the region’s challenges but also enhances the overall quality of life for its residents, paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future.
Objective
- To serve as the Regional Project Management Office for the SMART and Sustainable Communities support in the implementation of Smart Community projects in the region.
- To create an ecosystem for Smart and Sustainable Communities in Region 8.
- To draft a strategic plan and roadmap for the development of Smart and Sustainable Communities in Eastern Visayas.
- To delineate the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the SSC ecosystem, including government agencies, academic institutions, and local government units.
